Mizoram
Covered with verdant forests dominated by thick bamboo groves, sheer cliffs and breath-taking waterfalls, dotted with picturesque villages of houses built on stilts, is a trekker's paradise. The Phawngpui Mountains is one of the best trekking spots of the place. Para gliding is a popular adventure sport in the region. There is a para gliding school which organizes para gliding activities and festivals in association with the tourism department of Mizoram.
The land of the hilly people, Mizoram is bestowed with immaculate tourist attractions that can be Palak Lake, the biggest lake and Tam Dil Lake. Aizawl being the capital of the state is an important tourist destination. Lunglei and Champhai are other major tourist destination, Champhai being famous for caves. There are many wildlife sanctuaries like the Dampa Wildlife Sanctuary, Ngengpui Wildlife Sanctuary, Tokalo Wildlife Sanctuary and so on with few national parks like Murlen National Park and Phawngpui National Park.
The Baktawng Village in the Serchhip District of Mizoram is famous for having the world's biggest family (The Ziona Family) with more than 180 members. They live in a 100-room, four storey house.
Durtlang Hills
Durtlang Hills, situated to the north of Aizwal high above the city provide majestic view of entire Aizwal city from beautiful and craggy hill top. The way to Durtlang itself offers enjoyable walk along the steep climb with scenic rural environment. During evening nearing sunset it is a beautiful sight from the top. As the light faded out of the horizon, the city lights came on and started twinkling like stars. Aizawl at night is one of the most beautiful cities in India. One never gets a complete picture of Aizwal unless one visits the Durtlang Hills.
Solomon's Temple
Tucked away in the clouded hills of Chawlhmun area in West Aizawl stands the Solomon’s
Temple. It is considered the largest church in Mizoram state and has become a tourist attraction in Mizoram with visitors from all over the world. The Temple area accommodates 2,000 people within the main hall and ten thousand people within its courtyard. It is a square site 180 ft. on each side. The interior of the Temple building is also square, 120 ft on each side. A verandah 30 ft. wide is attached to the exterior of the main hall on all four sides. This provides a shelter for people with its sizable seating capacity and is called ‘The porch of Solomon’s Temple’. Within its compound, the temple complex has natural park covered by various forest trees to shade and fruits for bird and squirrel of different kinds.
Mizoram State Museum
The Mizoram State Museum, one of the important tourist destinations of Mizoram, is situated at Mc Donald Hill at Aizawl. It is an ethnographic museum with multipurpose collections on display. There are six galleries: Textile Gallery, Ethnology, History, Anthropology, Zoology and Archeology Terrace. The collection occupies four floors. The cultural heritage of the state of Mizoram is finely depicted in the form of different items on display in the museum. It is an ethnological museum and hence the collection of the museum comprises mainly of ethnological collections. A collection of photograph, arms and weapons, musical instrument, coins, utensils, paintings, historical relics,stone sculpture, ancient costumes and traditional equipments are on display in the museum. The museum also has a separate gallery dedicated to the tribes of Mizoram.
Reiek Heritage Village
Reiek is a mountain and tourist spot 29 km from Aizawl. It rests at an elevation of 1548 metres
overlooking Aizawl and offers a view of the surrounding valleys and hills. On a clear day the plains of Bangladesh can be seen from the top of the hill. Reiek Hill is surrounded by thick lush green temperate trees and bushes.
Reiek has a typical Mizo village consisting of the distinctive traditional huts of the different Mizo sub-tribes, Mizo chieftain’s house, a bachelor’s dormitory and that of a widow has been created and maintained by Tourism Department. The houses are fully furnished giving the visitor a peek into the glorious past of the valiant highlanders. A few Mizo modern houses have also been constructed nearby to show the changes that have taken place in the Mizo way of life in keeping pace with the modern developments. The Department also has a cafeteria and a resort providing decent food and accommodation. This is also the venue for the annual Anthurium festival organised every year in September and however, the best time to visit the village would be in April.
Anthurium Festival
The Anthurium Festival is a 3 day-long event organized every year in September by the State Government of Mizoram with an aim to promote tourism in the state and also encourage Anthurium cultivation in Mizoram. In this festive event all the various Mizo tribes get to come together and showcase their amazing cultures and traditions. The 3 day-long celebrations are marked by a colorful display of various Mizo cultures and traditions; indigenous games and sports, mouth-watering traditional Mizo delicacies, folk songs and dances, traditional methods of harvesting and cooking, handicrafts et al. Various local products of Mizoram like fruit juices, pickles, handicrafts, handloom items, bamboo products etc are also put on display and sold during the festival. Fashion shows and music concerts highlighting the talented Mizos are also an important aspect of the Anthurium Festival.
KV Paradise
KV Paradise is the Modern Taj Mahal of Aizawl. It is a monument that speaks of a man's love for his wife who died in a car accident. When Varte (V) died in a 2001 car accident, her husband, Khawlhring (K), lavished his entire savings and energy to create this three-storey mausoleum in her memory. The memorial is around 45 minutes drive from the main city and a few minutes away from Durtlang Hills. Incidentally, it also happens to be on a beautiful slope facing Aizawl city. KV Paradise has soon become a popular tourist destination in Aizawl. An act of love and remembrance has become a place for many to go and create special memories.
Luangmual Handicrafts Centre
Located at 7 km of distance from the main town of Aizawl, Luangmual Handicrafts Centre is a well-renowned centre specializing in handicrafts in the region. This is a place worth visiting if you want to carry, as a token of memory, few traditional hand made items of the region. One of its specialties are the popular ‘Khumbeu’, the ceremonial hat made from waterproof wild Hnanthial leaves which are exclusive to the hilly terrain. Here are also available an array of artefacts such as jewellery baskets made of bamboo, wicker baskets, wooden articles and hand woven purses etc at much economic prices.

Mini Zoological Garden
Situated in the core area of Aizawl, Mini Zoological Garden is one of the main attractions for tourists in the whole Mizoram. Situated at the Bethlehem Vengthlang hill of Aizawl, the zoo holds a significant place in the whole world. The zoo houses a large number of species of mammals and birds, including some of the rarest animals found in Asia. A major attraction of the zoo is the endangered sun bear, who lures maximum tourists to this place.
Dampa Wildlife Sanctuary
Dampa Tiger Reserve or Dampha Tiger Reserve is the largest wildlife sanctuary in Mizoram. It is
situated in the Kolasib District of Mizoram in India and touches the international boundaries of Bangladesh. Located about 130 km from the state capital Aizawl, Dampa Wildlife Sanctuary is a picture postcard destination in Mizoram, surrounded by lush green vegetations. It covers an area of approximately 550 km². The tropical forests of Dampa are home to rich flora and fauna. It consists of forest interpolated with steep precipitous hills, deep valleys, jungle streams, ripping rivulets and natural salts licks. Dampa Tiger Reserve is a part of Project Tiger funded by the Government of India.
Dampa wildlife sanctuary was given the status of a tiger reserve in the year 1994. Dampa Tiger Reserve is a part of Project Tiger, financially aided by Government of India. A haven for the wildlife lovers, it is the habitat to a huge variety of wildlife species and birds alike which include leopards, Indian bison, barking deer, sloth bear, gibbons, langurs, slow loris, rhesus macaque, Indian Python, wild boar and a variety of birds.
